Ahh great read! I'd love to have a conversation with you about this in more detail bc I'm always reflecting what it means to have diasporic privilege and a home away from home etc.
Thank you for reading! I'm always reflecting on what it means to have privilege and I understand it can be quite emotive. I'm really hoping to create an in-person space to explore this in more detail. And to the point about a home away from home, something I've been thinking about more recently is whether our privilege is different (can privilege be different???) because the nature of us moving to and/or exploring these countries is innately different because of our heritage?
I feel that this topic only creates more questions in my mind and I'm trying to get to having more answers!
Can privilege be nuanced, good q😮💨 maybe not inherently, but the way it's navigated definitely is e.g. the diaspora's motives for returning to the continent: are they driven by capitalising on a weak currency, engaging in non-sustainable tourism, or a genuine desire to reconnect? And what does the latter that look like in its fullness: is it about immersion, collaboration, something deeper?
Basically, sign me up for discussing these topics irl, would be so insightful!

Absolutely! And thank you for sharing your thoughts so openly too - these are the exchanges I live for!
